Student teaching is a great experience so far. Last week was my first week, and it was pretty uneventful. It was the last week of the term for the students, so they were just wrapping up their final projects, deep cleaning the shop, and watching videos.
This week has been awesome. I have been observing my mentor teacher, and he has been allowing me to teach several classes each day. It is a great feeling to stand in front of a class of students and direct their learning. I am loving it when they ask me questions and I am able to work with each student individually.
I am really enjoying the discussions I have been having with my good friend Ryan Andersen who is doing an internship at the same Jr. High. We have very similar teaching philosophies and an interest in the latest technology and software that we can use in the classroom.
This weekend I plan on getting started on my Teacher Work Sample, which is a very thorough document in which I plan out a unit to teach and then describe my pre-assessment, actual teaching, and post-assessment of that unit. It then goes into my placement file to be reviewed by potential employers. I look forward to learning how to better write unit plans, and preparing to teach.

Hey Todd,
I'm glad that you showed up to student teach at Mountain Ridge. You've helped me work some things out and provided me with some good ideas for helping me be a more effective first year teacher. I hope to have more good discussions with you in the coming weeks. Keep up the good work!

Ryan

By the way I think I figured out how to get art work into itunes for your podcast.
